Jujo Thermal selected the ABB AbilityTM Manufacturing Execution System based on a matrix of 10 criteria, including industry knowledge, user experience, system capabilities and more. ABB’s MES scored significantly higher than its competitors, with the promise of maximum performance, real-time visibility, operational intelligence and automation across the value chain.
The ABB solution supports a full range of manufacturing business processes, including order management and invoicing, production planning and scheduling, quality-based re-trim optimization, production management and traceabiity, and quality data management.
The new system was implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic when travel was restricted, so both the ABB and Jujo Thermal teams invested extra time and effort to prepare for the rollout. ABB had a well-defined path for MES implementation and the mill found it helpful to know what steps were coming next. It was especially important to ensure that the master data set was healthy and that they had a good data plan before any configuration was undertaken.
