Future-proofing vessels for high-efficiency, zero-emission coastal shipping
ROBOSHIP uses ABB’s Onboard DC GridTM power distribution system and ABB Ability™ Remote Diagnostic System for Marine for continuous monitoring and remote support. The modular system can be built to suit various vessels – from the largest ocean-going ships to smaller, lower-power vessels operating along coastal routes or inland waterways. It enables emission-free sailing without compromising speed or range.

Onboard DC Grid reduces the footprint of the electrical equipment by eliminating the need for bulky transformers and main switchboards. This creates more space for cargo, increases flexibility in the positioning of system components on the vessel and increases payload capacity.
ABB Ability Remote Diagnostics for Marine collects, stores and analyzes onboard operational data and provides remote troubleshooting support over a secure satellite connection. By identifying possible equipment malfunctions and maintenance needs at an earlier stage, the Remote Diagnostic System saves maintenance costs and reduces downtime.
In addition to Onboard DC Grid and ABB Ability Marine Remote Diagnostics, ABB’s solution provides a standard system hardware package for electric propulsion, including propulsion motors, DC switchboards, energy storage batteries and generators.
“Electric-powered ships are key to the shipping industry’s sustainable future – and we take pride in providing our customers with highly efficient electric propulsion solutions that are compliant with today’s regulations and allow integrating with emissions-free energy sources in the future.”
