Ensuring water security
Climate change and a growing population required Singapore to find a long-term solution to its water needs. With the Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant (KMEDP), Singapore can now leverage the world’s first dual-mode plant, allowing it to produce 30 million gallons per year of potable water from both fresh water and sea water.
Built and operated by Keppel Seghers Pte Ltd, the plant is designed to reduce the country’s water costs while providing a secure supply of water. The facility will also support national water company PUB’s wider water security strategy of ensuring that 30 percent of supply comes from desalination.
Accurate monitoring and analyzing of water flow rates and quality is important for water plants to improve efficiency and reduce maintenance through early leakage identification, which is where ABB provided customized solutions. With these solutions the Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant can also accurately track volumes of water for revenue generating purposes and ensure quality to safeguard public health.
